Red roses proclaim "I love you."

Red Roses Proclaim I Love You

They are the ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion.

Florists say they can not keep enough roses in stock for Valentine's Day. In fact, it is estimated that about 2 billion dollars will be spent on flowers alone in 2013.

Whew!! That's a lot of money!  I told my husband no roses this year. I have my own Valentine's roses since my rose bushes are blooming so profusely.  You have seen my pink ones and the variegated ones in previous posts, but  today you can see all three - including the red one.

What is your favorite rose color? I don't know if I can pick just one. I love roses no matter what the color. This pinkish lavender bush that my husband bought me a few years ago, is definitely one of my favorites. As you can see in the picture below, it has so many buds on it. In fact, I counted 32 as of this morning. What a special Valentine gift these bushes are giving me.

You can see the variegated roses on the other side of the  pink ones.

However, there are some colors and meanings that are associated with roses:
  •  Red rose means “I love you”. Additionally, it stands for beauty, courage, and respect.
  • White rose indicates true love, purity, innocence, reverence, humility, youthfulness, and charm.
  • A yellow rose gives out the meanings joy, gladness, friendship, and remembrance.
  • Subtle hues can make a big difference in meaning. Contrast a plain yellow rose with a yellow rose with a red tip.
  • A yellow rose with red tip conveys the meaning “I'm falling in love with you”.
No matter what the color, I like the roses that are in the "ground".

My husband is the type that gives me flowers for no reason. When we were dating, he would arrive and there would be flowers lying on the seat of the car. Other times he brings me home flowers, just because.

I love to dry the roses and you can't believe this but I have every rose he has ever given me. Needless to say, I have large containers filled with them. I use them in potpourri or other decorations.

I picked some to take with me since we are leaving to go to our other house. Most of them are buds but I had to pick this variegated one that is in full bloom and won't last too much longer. It is the size of a saucer - what a beauty.

I hope you enjoy your Valentine's Day as much as I am enjoying mine!

    1. I think they love the location by the barn. I don't even fertilize them very often. The soil is sandy so that is not it. All I know is they are beautiful and abundant. I have yellow ones at my other house and they are gorgeous.
Thanks so much for the lovely comments.
